Instructions for Authors

Article Types

Immunity & Inflammation publishes Research, Brief Report, Review, Research Highlight, and Editorial.

1. Research

A

Research describes an original novel research study, with a complete

structure including Introduction, Results, Discussion and Methods.

Research papers should contain an unstructured abstract with up to 250

words. The main text (excluding abstract, references and figure legends)

is around 6,000 words. Articles have a maximum of 7 display items

(figures and/or tables). Additional display items will be published as

Supplemental Information.

2. Brief Report

A

Brief Report demonstrates an important and timely research finding

which is brief in nature but is of general interest to the field. The

text is limited to 1,500 words with no more than 1 display items

(figures and/or tables) and maximum of 15 references. No abstract is

needed for a brief report.

3. Review

A

Review provides the comprehensive and authoritative summary of recent

developments in a specific research field. Review papers should contain

an unstructured abstract with up to 250 words, and the main text with up

to 8,000 words in length. The display items, such as boxes, tables and

figures, are encouraged to support the content or explain concepts

outlined in the text.

4. Research Highlight

A

Research Highlight focuses on papers of significance that are published

in this journal or elsewhere. Research Highlight papers should include

up to 1,500 words of main text plus a brief sentences less than 100

words serving as abstract, no more than 1 display item and max of 10

references.

5. Editorial

An

editorial is usually commissioned, but proposals for editors may also

be submitted and considered for publication. The format of editorials is

flexible with max of 1,500 words, 1 display item and 10 references.

of a manuscript implies: that the work described has not been published

before; that it is not under consideration for publication anywhere

else; that its publication has been approved by all co-authors, if any,

as well as by the responsible authorities – tacitly or explicitly – at

the institute where the work has been carried out. The publisher will

not be held legally responsible should there be any claims for

compensation.
